The 2021 Izzo 5K Run/Walk/Roll will be held Saturday, October 9. The Race Committee will continue to follow the guidelines of the university, local, city, state, and public health officials to ensure a safe experience for all Izzo 5K participants.
To check your participation status, go to participant tracking and search by your name.
This year’s race will feature a competitive start at 9:55am and an open start line from 10:00am to 10:20am. This will allow for social distancing and safe racing!
How does the competitive and open/flexible start line work?
Start the 5K run/walk any time between 10:00 and 10:20am. Those looking to race for a competitive time, line up to start at 9:55am. After the competitive start, keep an eye on the start line and begin your run/walk when you feel comfortable. The starting line area (on Birch Road) will be wide, and the space is open to allow for social distancing. You do not have to feel rushed to get to the starting line. Start your race when you are ready. Timing does not start until you cross the timing mats!
While Coach Izzo and the team will be at this year’s event cheering you on, there will not be any handshakes, high fives or hugs. We encourage air high fives, waves and socially distant selfies!
The Izzo 5K event will follow the Michigan State University policy requiring all individuals to wear masks indoors in all campus buildings and other MSU facilities in East Lansing. Please have a mask with you in case you go indoors for packet pick up, to use the restroom, or enter the stadium through the tunnel. Masks are not required outside or during the run/walk/roll!
The Izzo family has partnered with Playmakers to host this premium experience on the campus of Michigan State University. The mission is to connect Alumni, the MSU and Mid-Michigan communities in a positive celebration of Coach Izzo's legacy. The events include a 5K Run/Walk, 5K Roll, 1 Mile Walk, Children's Races and a Virtual 5K; all events will focus on fitness, fun, family, Spartan spirit and charitable giving!
Proceeds from the 2021 Izzo Legacy Run/Walk/Roll will create an endowment for the Izzo Legacy Family Fund that will ensure charitable giving for years to come. In addition, participants can donate to select local charities through the registration process or on the donate page. Fans who donate $1,000 to one or more of the selected local charities will be acknowledged on the Donor Banner displayed at the Izzo Legacy Event.

Tom and I have certainly been blessed to be a part of this community and we feel a genuine obligation to give back to the MSU and Mid-Michigan communities that have become such a large part of our lives. One of the reasons we’ve never left Michigan State is the connection to our community.
